Finding My Grace?

For as long as I can remember, my Father has always taught us that getting into Heaven isn’t as complicated as people make it. Let me clarify that. Getting into Heaven isn’t a piece of cake. There are choices you have to make. The point he is trying to make, and that I whole-heartedly believe, is that all you need is “Grace.”

Religion is a complicated thing. We don’t have a direct line to the big guy upstairs. We’re left to interpret the messages he sent to us a long time ago. And within those interpretations, many religions have formed. They all have their sets of guidelines that members must follow in order to gain access to God’s Kingdom.

Churches and religions make creating a relationship with God complicated. The question my father asked himself was, “why?” Why does a relationship with the Lord have to be as complicated as it is in today’s society? It doesn’t make sense. God blessed us with the gift of life. Wouldn’t he want us to enjoy it to the full extent and not spend it constantly looking over our shoulders, constantly worried about whether or not you’re doing enough?

In the end, my father says, it’s simple. To get in, all you need is Grace. You need to find that connection with God, live by what you think is right and cherish the blessings that you have. That’s it. It doesn’t matter how often you go to Church, when the last time you took communion or any of those other nagging fears we live with. All that matters is you accept Him into your life, and you enjoy it.

I think they summed it up quite nicely in the film The Book of Eli When Denzel Washington (Eli) and Mila Kunis (Solara) exchanged this dialogue when asking about the meaning of The Bible (spoiler alert!):

Solara: I didn’t think you’d ever give up the book, I thought it was too important to you.

Eli: It was. I was carrying and reading it everyday, got so caught up in protecting it, I forgot to live by what I’d learnt from it.

Solara: And what’s that?

Eli: To do more for others than you do for yourself.

The purpose of this site is to help me establish that connection with God. To help answer the questions I have from his teachings. To help me understand why things happen the way they do. And ultimate, to find my Grace.
